Environment Protection & Stewardship
Our physical environment plays a big role in enhancing or endangering our lives. Students as young stewards need to be involved in the right care, preservation and improvement of our soils, water bodies, trees, birds and animals at school, homes and communities. The Teens Up ACT Model and Theory of Change empowers teenage girls and boys to protect and conserve the environment against climate change.
- 0.28°C is the rate at which Uganda’s temperatures are increasing on average
- 68.7 Hectares of Uganda’s natural forest lost in 2023, contributing to emissions equivalent to 8,253,982 Tons of CO2 annually
a) Environment Care
Teens Up Initiative advocates for schools to provide time for environment cleaning and land to plant vegetables and trees (fruit or wood trees) for environment care and food consumption. The school trees also give beauty, shade to learners and staff members and a cool environment in general. Each student is given a fruit tree and vegetable seedlings to plant at their homes or communities. Fruits and vegetables grown at home and school are consumed. The artwork of fruits and vegetables will be used to encourage students to consume vegetables and fruits for good health.
b) Environment Conservation
Students are trained in environment conservation measures against climate change for example: sensitization against deforestation and pollution of the environment, reforestation, cleaning and trimming compound lawns, cleaning water sources or bodies to have clean water, cleaning drainages whose silt is used to make compound pavers, and correct use, recycle us or avoidance of plastic materials like bags and bottles. We sensitize students on environment and wildlife conservation using their sewed hand art of animals, birds, fruits and vegetables.
c) Clean & Affordable Energy
Using recycled and bio-degradable materials, students are taught how to make cooking fuel materials like briquettes from saw dust or coal dust, and biogas from animal/human waste.
